Jewelry designer Heidi Gardner dives into commercial waters for spring '14 and produces an exquisitely crafted collection.
At the Highline Loft in New York City, Heidi Gardner previewed her spring/summer 2014 collection entitled Waterland. And we must say the looks washed in like a wave of wonder both figuratively and literally. Accessories came in the form of sea creatures and were a refreshing departure from the signature skull heads that mark Gardner’s previous collections. During our interview with the designer, she said the new direction was deliberate, and that she aimed to commercialize her designs while remaining true to the brands DNA. “I wanted to stay true to my delicate meets dangerous aesthetic,” said the petite blonde with a smile. “And who doesn’t love the ocean?”What hasn’t changed with this new collection is Gardner’s exquisite craftsmanship. Perhaps what is most beautiful about her new offering is how literal oceanic inspiration takes form. Stingrays shape statement arm cuffs, puffer fish work as perfect earring studs and shark teeth adorn a long chain necklace. Each piece is dangerous indeed, but also gorgeously delicate. For spring ’14, Gardner used the finest materials land has to offer including sterling silver, brass, 18K gold plating, diamonds, rubies, sapphires, moonstones and black and white pearls. Gardner joked that she remains partial to skulls, but feels she still was able to create a fantasy world, just a different type. “I wanted to take the beauty of the ocean and put it on land. To create a wonderland.”

Let Deborah Sawaf of Thalé Blanc charm you with her clever clutch designs for the coming season.
Thalé Blanc’s latest clutch offering will completely charm you. From rich textures to vintage inspiration, a Thalé Blanc clutch is more than just an arm accessory, it’s an attitude.
One of the styles that instantly caught our eye was the Zodiac clutch. Designed by Deborah Sawaf, the beauty behind the brand, this piece allows the wearer to choose their own etched Zodiac sign adorned with Swarovski crystals.
Perhaps there is no better conversation piece than the Flutter of Hope clutch, with 20% of its proceeds going towards Pediatric Cancer Research. It’s a clutch that cares, which is truly that epitome of good taste.
Evening clutches with mother of pearl detail are “100% Art Deco,” according to Sawaf. She pointed out her attention to small, vintage details, including the clutch’s 1920s inspired silk lining.
Spring in action with any of these cute clutches for the coming season.

For the second year, Nordic fashion designers assert their creative edge at New York Fashion Week’s Northern Exposure event.
A selected group of Nordic fashion designers gave a glowing glimpse of their creative ingenuity, presenting their spring 2014 collections at Northern Exposure, a New York Fashion Week event produced by fashion trade show Capsule as well as with International Playground and the Consulates General of Sweden and Finland.
For the event, fashion labels Siloa & Mook, Ensæmble and Lepokorpi from Finland in addition to Patouf, Ann-Sofie Back and Rodebjer from Sweden, each selected one spring 2014 look to display at the The Hole NYC. The gallery’s scene was minimalistic, and set the stage for the Nordic’s signature clarity in design.
The simplicity and ease of Patouf’s slouchy gray suit would be a sophisticated fit for an on-the-go urbanite. In an interview, Patouf’s founder and head designer Anna Angseryd said the finger print inspired the collection. “No two people have the same print, so we design in mind that no two people have the same body either,” says Angseryd.
Ann-Sofie Back’s design also exuded downtown cool with modern, transparent logo pumps, a tied on scarf skirt and leather moto-jacket. New York girls will love a black throw over with a green iridescent skirt from Rodebjer. For day dressing, there was a casual look from Siloa & Mook that maintained a notable air of posh. CEO/Creative Director of Siloa & Mook Otso Lindofrs said the fashion house creates all its own original prints.
The Nordic design perspective certainly breathed fresh air to the scene, while at the same time, it fit right in at New York Fashion Week.

Feast your eyes on the boldest of babbles from the 2013 Couture Jewelry Press Preview where fall's exquisite trends unfold in layers.
At this year’s Couture Jewelry Press Preview, we discovered the latest trend in fine accessories: layering. “My clients are builders,” says designer Jacquie Aiche, who elaborated that her loyal patrons collect her designs to layer them and build upon a statement.
Demonstrating the trend, Sara Freedman of Amali donned the obvious choice for layering: necklaces in varying chain lengths.
Long strands made of pyrite gemstones found in Jacquie Aiche‘s collection are ideal for piling on with shorter necklaces.
The Couture Preview offered a rich selection of bangles and bracelets to layer up your arm. We indulged in Victor Velyan’s opulent cuffs, especially the one pictured made of 24k gold and pure silver with opals and diamonds.
Balance a large, statement cuff on one wrist, with layered, smaller bracelets on the other. Syna offered a slim, simple and stunning black and champagne diamond bracelet. We also adored the staple wrist builders from AS29. Their Spine Cuff in white gold plated silver with white diamonds is a wonder for the wrist.
Tell us, what collectables will you be adding to your jewelry repertoire this season?

Check out the stunning assortment of statement rings for spring 2014 handcrafted by jeweler Jorge Adeler.
“Fine jewelry represents ‘feel good’ emotions. It’s an investment to commiserate or celebrate a happy occasion. We want our jewelry to literally feel good too,” says Valentina Adeler Armour, daughter to Jorge Adeler, founder of Adeler Jewelers.
Standing in a light-filled suit at The London NYC, Valentina presented the spring/summer ’14 collection and encouraged the room of editor’s to feel the natural and edgy surfaces of each ring. “We believe you don’t need to embellish a gem, you just have to frame it,” Valentina adds while holding up a dark pyritized slate ring with naturally embedded golden zircon flecks (pictured left).
The 14k gold frames themselves on Adeler statement rings create a feel good experience. Turn an Adeler ring over, you will be delighted to discover intricate carved under galleries in glossy or hammered finishes as well as surprise diamonds nestled into corners.
Sunny hue diamond rings, appropriately titled Rock Candy certainly aroused the senses. Our favorite was a cheery yellow gold lemon quartz ring with diamonds (pictured center). For your pleasure, these statement rings bridge the gap between fine jewelry and costume, while transitioning seamlessly into day to night.
Perhaps no gem feels as comforting to don as the traditional pearl. Adeler has become known for their pearls, but, ironically, for modernizing them. A 14kt ikecho pearl ring accented with diamonds boasted a lustrous finish with sumptuous color formations. Like all of Adeler rings, it begged to be felt and flaunted.

Issey Miyake Resort 2014 introduces the punching technique, a breathable approach to design.
For Resort 2014, Issey Miyake advances its innovative point of view with the introduction of the punching technique, a new approach to breathable clothing. This new technique punctures countless tiny holes or vents into the fabric—the result an optical illusion allowing for an airy, yet dynamic statement.
The finish on these punched garments almost resembles a dot print, but with greater color intensity due to the layering of fabric. White and black layers are especially effective for versatility, seen with a pair of chic trousers and a sporty spring coat.
This resort collection is greatly comprised of sportswear that promotes carefree movement. Even the dressier pieces, such as a range of punctured tops in layers of white, gray and black, have a very wearable quality.

Q+A UK decodes fall/winter 2013 runway trends as seen at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week New York
Get ready for new season of style with looks from a few of our favorite designers, who wowed at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week New York.
Reem Acra
Create contrast. Black and white makes a sharp statement. Reem Acra gives us a few stellar ideas for donning this fierce pair up: a checked wool suit for an urban sensibility, a statement white graphic on black for high impact (seen with embroidered birds in flight across a tunic) and a Japanese floral arrangement for a glam take on eveningwear.
Joanna Mastroianni
Sparkle and shine. For your next night of celebration, don’t skimp on sheen or sparkle. Joanna Mastroianni sent out festive dresses in girly hues, as well as glossy metallics and sultry noirs. Opt for flirty accents, such as sheer necklines and organza lining. Short hemlines are also a ‘do’ in the colder season; just pair them with black tights.
Custo Barcelona
Print your pullover. What’s the simplest way to enliven your fall and winter wardrobe? An exuberant coat! It certainly makes for a stellar, one step statement. Designer Custo Dalmau sent out a colorful array of outerwear on the runway: furs in multi-hues, lace trimmed delicate floral arrangements, and tribal motifs given a sporty spin.
EMERSON by Jackie Fraser Swan
Love leather. At EMERSON, leather saw no limits! Leather waist cinchers, shoulder panels, and accents gave edge to quaint collared dresses. Calfskin shaped skinny pants and pencil skirts, even showing at moments in electric purple. Layer your leather with patterned fabrics that create a cool contrast. Case in point: designer Jackie Fraser Swan’s combination of leather with plaid chiffon.

For fall 2013, New York Fashion Week designers drew inspiration from sportswear creating functional silhouettes with a modern edge.
Laura Siegel
Style with a scarf. In the colder season, nothing is more functional or fashionable than a fabulous scarf. Laura Siegel actually said she designed her collection with this question in mind: What clothes would be ideal for surviving in the wilderness? The result lends great inspiration for different ways to drape a scarf: encircled around the neck, falling across the front of the chest, resting over the shoulders, and color coordinating with the rest of your attire.
Rodebjer
Lower your knits. We love nothing more than a cozy sweater in the colder season, which is why we adored Rodjeber’s novel gray and black knits that came in the form of tapered pants and skirts. Consider one of these hand knit pieces a worthwhile investment, as they are extremely versatile. In one look with a gray knit pencil skirt, this Swedish line opted for a pink flouncy blouse. In other moments of note, knit pants were paired with matching knit sweaters for a fresh take on the comfy sweat suit.
Zang Toi
Run regal. Opulent Imperial Russia inspired Zang Toi’s fall collection and the result was sheer luxury. To create an air of elegance, suit up! Zang Toi’s opted for professional suit wear in rich mahoganies on wool tweed. Others ways this designer showcased sheer refinement? Prim pussy bows adorned model’s neck, fox fur accented lapels, and coat sleeves were forgone, (which created a king like cape).

The Humane Society of the US and The Art Institutes partner for the 8th annual Cool vs. Cruel Competition held at the Tribeca Grand Hotel in New York
The Humane Society of the United States and The Art Institutes celebrated the winners of the eighth annual Cool vs. Cruel Fashion Design Competition with a chic awards reception at the Tribeca Grand Hotel in New York City.
This unique competition calls upon students from The Art Institute to recreate runway looks that use fur by replacing the material with cruelty-free alternatives. At this year’s competition, students borrowed from Marc Jacobs, J. Mendel, BCBG Max Azria and Jean-Paul Gaultier.
Grand prize winner, Nicolle Bajgrowicz smiled on the red carpet, as she gracefully stood next to her winning design, a look by BCBG which she recreated at The Art Institute of California, Orange County.
According to Bajgrowicz, her winning dress took 18 hours to complete and featured beautiful construction complete with hand beaded sleeves. As a part of the grand prize, Bajgrowicz spent a week in New York doing a paid internship with esteemed fur-free designer Victoria Bartlett.
Bajgrowicz doesn’t feel pressure to use cruel means to create fashion. “I don’t feel there is a reason to use fur anymore, because of the technology that is available now. Faux fur and faux leather have become very advanced,” she said.

With a longstanding history of fusing music and fashion, lifestyle brand Diesel showcases their latest musical collaboration with an in store performance by Little Boots.
Diesel transformed their SoHo, New York store into a full-fledged house of music for sensation Little Boots. British electro dance pop-star performed songs from her debut album, Nocturnes, the day before its US release. Q+A UK stood excitedly front row for the show, and fell in love with the blonde rocker’s Diesel streetwear, which perfectly complemented her vixen stage persona. As a lifestyle brand, “The fusion between music and fashion is not a new initiative for Diesel,” said Tyson Murphy, Diesel’s Men’s Press & Publicity Manager. Little Boots embodies an ‘organic realness,’ Murphy added, that truly emblems the Diesel spirit. For this event, Diesel partnered with Activaire, an audio branding agency that helps reinforce a brand’s DNA by linking it with a representative playlist or performer. “Personally my fashion has always been inspired by my music,” says Little Boots, aka Victoria Hesketh. “So I think it’s great brands like Diesel value music so much and understand this relationship.”

Makeup artist Sammy H. Mourabit transforms Madonna into Marlene Dietrich circa 1930s with the help of Votre Vu products.
Known for her risk-taking costumes and dramatic makeup, Madonna recreated Marlene Dietrich’s look from the 1930s film Morocco for her MDNA Tour premiere. Her suit and top hat made a statement, but it was her makeup that really caught our eye. We asked makeup artist Sammy H. Mourabit for Votre Vu to give us the scoop on her bold beauty look.
Mourabit began by applying moisture rich lotion to the face and neck using Votre Vu Attentive Crème de Jour for Sensitive Skinand Portrait Collar Restorative Neck Crème to create a base for smooth, supple skin. He then mixed Me Deux Nourishing Moisture Tint with Attentive Face Lotion to create an ultra dewy finish.
Marlene Dietrich’s ultra-thin, signature eyebrows are surely the main point of interest. To avoid over plucking, Mourabit used Love Me Duex Concealer to cover stray hairs.
Nothing says old Hollywood glam like ruby red lips, so Mourabit gave Madonna depth by using two shades of French Kiss Moisture Riche Lipsticks. The darker Margaux lined the outer lip, then the lighter Annette filled the inner, for easy dramatic dimension.
Last, but not least, don’t forget to don Dietrich’s seductive, false eyelashes as a final, flirty touch.

Photographer Roberta Bayley and journalist Jon Savage discuss the origins of punk fashion at the MET.
On an auditorium stage at The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, Blondie’s Debbie Harry, punk photographer Roberta Bayley and punk historian/music journalist, Jon Savage talked fashion, Sex Pistols and the trends that defined a generation seeking freedom of expression.
The intimate panel discussion, entitled Sunday at the MET―A Conversation on The Origins of Punk, was moderated by GQ Style Guy, Glenn O’Brien to further conversation on the The Costume Institute’s exhibition, Punk: Chaos to Couture, which is on display until August 14. This unique exhibit highlights the longevity of punk’s influence on fashion with a diverse representation of design houses, including Versace, Chanel, Burberry, and of course, Vivienne Westwood.
Attendees were treated to a photo presentation by Styles and Bayley that looked at punk fashion in US and England nearly four decades ago. We have to say the styles still looked modern, with tattered tops, zipper details, skinny pants, and stud embellishments.
So what are the origins of punk? “There wasn’t (an origin),” said Bayley. “The idea was floating in the air and both sides of the pond made it take on form.” She added, “It’s very hard to copy-write fashion. Fashion is about knock offs.

To kick off their exciting new chapter, they threw a summer bash with some of the city’s most influential sponsors.
“We were in Toronto for five years and hit a ceiling. Obviously, the next migration for anybody, anywhere, is New York,” says Trung Hoang, founder and creative director of Think Contra.
Think Contra partnered with Omen PR to organize the festivities, which were hosted at Root (Drive-In), one of the most spacious studios in Manhattan. The scene brought back childhood summers with snow cones, ping-pong tables, and even a dunk tank. To further nostalgia, DJ Becka Diamond mixed 80s tracks with sound equipment courtesy of Team Sennheiser USA. The event’s collaborative effort made clear, new-on-the-block Think Contra has already made a few New York friends, including another influential sponsor, Martini Media. The party’s amazing turnout only intensified Think Contra’s buzz. “We didn’t come here not knowing anybody, we had a bit of a foot hold,” shares Hoang.

Yarnz offers high impact cashmere scarfs and lambskin handbags for fall/winter 2013.
The word ‘Yarnz’ in bold, graffiti like lettering, spanned across the wall of the brand’s Midtown West loft in NY, giving us a lively welcome as we stepped off the elevator to preview their fall collection. For the coming season, Yarnz stayed true to their spunky roots, with punchy patterns on cashmere scarfs and now, for a second season, with colorful motifs on fine leather handbags.
We especially loved the male scarf collection, and its use of camouflage as well as floral prints. The Yarnz brand rep held up a few of her favorite scarfs, which displayed graphically charged, almost digital prints, including one that recreates the page from a comic book. No matter how gutsy the graphics, when wrapped around our neck, every scarf proved to be completely wearable.
The brand’s loyalty to quality can be felt with the scarfs’ luxurious cashmere, and their resolve for functionality is evident in their bag designs. Sarah Jessica Parker, Scarlett Johansson, Madonna, and Blake Lively are just a few celebs who have added a Yarnz pop to their winter wear. Wrap up in your own bright Yarnz scarf and carry-all bag at top retailers, including Bergdorf Goodman, Barneys and Net-A-Porter, or visit their website.

Inspired by Old Hollywood, Ella McHugh’s fall '13 collection of handbags combine vintage glamour and craftsmanship with ease.
In only her second season, Ella McHugh is fast becoming one of Hollywood ‘s go-to for luxe handbags. Case in point, while previewing her fall/winter 2013 collection at New York’s NoMad Hotel, the PR girl excitedly pulled up US Weekly’s website to show us which celebs, including Rachael Leigh Cook, were clutching McHugh’s evening bags on the red carpet.
McHugh is a Yale graduate and attorney, who risked it all to pursue her design venture, and explained her affinity for all things vintage as well as her relentless standard for quality.
She utilizes the finest leathers and exotic skins, and utilizes third generation Italian artisans, who have craftsmanship printed in their DNA. The infatuation for classics runs in McHugh’s blood too, as her mother worked as an antique dealer. “I grew up surrounded by beautiful craftsmanship and timeless appeal,” said McHugh.
The silver screen, art deco aesthetics, and period mystery novels were sourced as influences on her sharp designs. Certainly Jean Harlow would have donned any Ella McHugh handbag on her arm, and thankfully you don’t have to be a celeb to do so today.

Fashion historian and author, Elyssa Dimant, releases her fourth book, 'The Style Mentors: Women Who Define the Art of Dressing Today,' a must read this spring/summer '13.
Scoop NYC hosted a book signing party for Elyssa Dimant to celebrate her fourth book, The Style Mentors: Women Who Define the Art of Dressing Today, which drew a fittingly fashionable crowd including Ariane Goldman of maternity clothing line, HATCH, Advertising Creative Director Chris Romero, and fashion photographers Stewart Shining and Justin Marquis.
The Style Mentors: Women Who Define the Art of Dressing Today outlines eight signature looks that have proven fashion longevity–the icon, maverick, bohemian, gamine, siren, minimalist, rocker, and classic–by providing examples of historical fashionistas -aka style mentors- who have successfully donned each style. Dimant identifies historically reoccurring pieces that the reader can opt for in their own wardrobe, dos and don’ts for dressing a look, and stellar style advice from the mentors themselves.
“Most women fall between categories, which is the great part about this book, you can embrace whatever look you are in the mood for,” Dimant said, who considers herself a minimalist and classic, and sported a vintage Givenchy dress, Nicholas Kirkwood shoes, and Noritamy necklace for the party.
A style mentor in her own right, Dimant signed copies of her chic new read to an impressive sized crowd, many in which seemed like close friends of the author. Attendees mingled, enjoyed champaign, and browsed Scoop NYC for fashion items ideal for their own signature look.
If you’re looking for a great book to take to the beach or pool you can’t go wrong with this fun, fashionable page turner.

Nomaterra’s premiere fragrance collection leads the way in mobile beauty with sophisticated packaging, and scents that take you away with pint-size convenience.
New York based fragrance line Nomaterra launched three delectable scents that lead the way in “mobo beau” better known as mobile beauty. Specifically designed for travel, Nomaterra premiered the progressive fragrance wipe, a moist toilette that is ideal for quality fragrance, on the go-application, and minimal carry on space. For when a night on the town calls for a stellar scent, the evening clutch is the ideal destination for these compactly packaged wipes, which remain fragrant for up to six uses.
Nomaterra also introduced a travel spray, which makes packing a breeze. For one, their sophisticated packaging, an aluminum exterior that encapsulates a glass bottle of fragrance, provides ultra-durability. We also love that with every travel spray purchase, Nomaterra gives you an extra glass fragrance bottle to serve as a refill. The bottle’s nifty twist nozzle further guarantees no leaks in your luggage, plus, it was designed to create the perfect spray mist application.
Not only are the fragrances perfect for travel, the scents themselves take you away to far away cities. Founder of Nomaterra, Agnieszka Sygnarowiez Burnett, based each fragrance on the first three locations her family traveled to after arriving in the United States from Poland in 1986: Miami, Washington D.C., and East Hampton. Our favorite is Miami, which is infused with this hot spot’s local coconut and orange blossom. Whichever scent takes you on your favorite escape, count on it being an fabulously aromatic getaway.

Alexandre Birman, a footwear designer on the pulse of fashion, celebrated the release of his spring 2013 collection at Saks Fifth Avenue with a host of New York’s most stylish starlets including Gossip Girl‘s Kelly Rutherford. The actress was ready to shop the collection, and ended up with a pair of yellow strappy stunners, which Birman autographed for a personal touch. Having been featured in the likes of Vogue, Elle and Bazaar, Birman also has strong Hollywood following with A-listers such as Kate Hudson, Jessica Alba, Demi Moore, and Emily Blunt all donning his sleek designs.
During our interview with Birman, he talked with us about the collection’s intricate fine details that include handcrafted accents and exotic materials. This season, Birman used a great deal of multi-hued snakeskin, and every pair could serve as the perfect palette to incorporate into your spring wardrobe. Birman said he was inspired by the color saturated in the rainforest of his native Brazil, where his father founded the footwear retailer Arezzo&Co in the 1970s. “I was born and raised in a shoe factory — and that’s not marketing, that’s the true story of my life,” says Birman. Even if you missed the party’s cocktails and DJ, you can still sink your feet into your very own striking pair of Alexandre Birman footwear at Saks.

Sarah Besnainou designs jewelry to capture moments of inspiration, hence the name of her line, Etername, which translates to, “make me eternal.”
“…A powerful love made her yearn to capture time in a jewel, to seize a moment with gemstones,” an excerpt from the poem The eternal moment of Sarah Besnainou.
“Saks Fifth Avenue has been wonderful to me,” gushed Sarah Besnainou, founder and designer of elegant French jewelry line Etername, during our interview in a lavish private viewing room at apparel giants 5th Avenue store. “They wanted to recreate a Parisian atmosphere,” Besnainou beamed, scanning the room’s indigo and sage green walls, plush parlor chairs and country quaint décor.
Although Etername has become a global brand since its foundation in Paris five years ago, its partnership with Saks Fifth Avenue marks its first U.S. enterprise, a venture that Saks Fifth Avenue met with mutual enthusiasm, evident by the thoughtful details that made Etername’s viewing room so beautiful. But truthfully, with stunning Etername pieces of fine jewelry gleaming through glass display windows, the setting couldn’t be less than luxe.
For the new partnership, Etername launched an exclusive Saks Fifth Avenue collection in the center of their world class, New York City jewelry department, where Besnainou herself conducted sales with an involved, hands-on approach. Sales were going so well, that it was only a brief moment in the viewing room before Besnainou hustled us back to her spot on the floor, as her self-designed, very chic earrings swayed to and fro.
Once at the small formation of glass cases displaying Etername’s jewels, Besnainou’s secret to global success became clear like her diamonds but complex like their meticulously placed configurations. There was the obvious: dazzling gems in sleek designs, but there was also Besnainou’s very sophisticated skill at connecting with potential clients. They were clearly her main focus, and like her jewelry, even we faded when around their shining presence.
In the moments between interested onlookers, Besnainou disclosed in her charming French accent that interpersonal connections made with clients are not just about closing deals. “(The connections) inspire the very designs clients invest in!” she said with genuine enthusiasm that was becoming reoccurring. “I capture moments of inspiration with jewelry, making them last forever, which is why (I chose) the name Etername,” which translates to “make me eternal.”
For Besnainou however, inspiration for her designs is not just limited to shared connections with Etername clients. For example, the Odaya black gold earrings with black spinals were conceived on a special day with her family, “My 6 year old niece was playing with rocks in the water, and I loved the ripples,” Besnainou said. “Every piece has special meaning and there is a reason why they are here.”
Besnainou does draw inspiration from the world around her, but she also listens to what her clients want. “I try to design something specific for each client, with their soul and inspiration in mind as to express who they are. I hear their story,” Besnainou said.
Visions of the Middle East on a trip to see a friend in Dubai inspired Etername’s Noor collection, with Noor meaning “to illuminate” in Arabic. Palace window work, streaming with bright light, greatly shaped its’ pieces, seen with intricate craftsmanship on a pink gold arm cuff with brown diamonds. “It’s a traditional design from the middle east, but I treat it in modern way,” Besnainou said.
At age 30, Besnainou ’s youth lends a great advantage to Etername’s distinct fresh take on timeless materials and traditional aesthetics, which results to greater connectivity to the evolving needs and tastes of clients. Pointing to one of the glass cases that displayed charcoal black-gold jewelry, Besnainou said, “Black is very trendy and modern and for me, as a young person, I want something modern to bring to the industry.”
Perhaps her youth also provides her ceaseless energy in pursuing new inspiration and relationships with U.S. clients. With as much skill as her designing eye, she has been actively forging meaningful interchanges during this U.S. expansion.
“Yesterday I had a lunch to connect with my clients, to see what they identify with, so that I can design for them” Besnainou said, with a look of sincere excitement on her face. “And I’ve been talking to a lot of people on the Saks Fifth Avenue sales floor.”
She went on to say she is using these U.S. client inspirations to design a future collection that will be exclusive to Saks, and offered nowhere else in the world.
Forward time a few weeks later, our paths cross again with Besnainou at The Mark Hotel. She rented a chic room for an Etername press preview, where a black chandelier draped with strands of faux pearls, and an array of lit candles set a romantic tone, which somehow seemed fitting.
A romantic occasion indeed, as a man and a woman within five minutes, enter the room and sit down at the table, as what appears to be interested clients. Just as our experience at Saks, it was very clear where Besnainou priorities are, as she greeted patrons with great warmth and zeal, and created ease with light heartened joking and chatter.
“These I designed for Kylie Monogue,” she said to the couple, pointing to her bestselling Ellipses earrings, which recreate the luminous stars in the galaxy. While thinking about Besnainou’s celebrity following, with clients including Diane Kruger and Audrey Marnay, we over hear that the earrings come in four variations, including a black gold pair encrusted with sapphires.
After a rushed interview, and a gift bag in hand, any feelings of neglect are soon dissipated when Besnainou happily reveals a shiny silver version of her Entrelacs ring, that fits both our finger and the moment perfectly. Our time with Besnainou felt complete now that we ourselves had the privilege to experience firsthand what a connection felt like between ourselves and an Etername piece, and we were equally enthused that it could now last forever.

When it comes to luxe gifting no ones does it like L.R. Paris, who produce beautifully crafted achievements that come with a white glove product fulfillment. They produced a custom wood box for President Barack Obama, champagne glasses for Prince Albert of Monaco, and an alligator passport holder for Harry Winston.

HH Brown tapped into their historical vaults this spring, and the result is strappy shoe splendor.
HH Brown tapped into their historical vaults this spring, and the result is strappy splendor. Not only did we fall in love with their classics all over again, we rediscovered that when it comes to footwear, you don’t have to sacrifice style for comfort.
Kork-Ease: Founded in 1953, is a Brooklyn, New York based brand credited for the original cork wedge sandal. The wedge is a stellar option if you seek comfort, but still crave glamorous height. We love the Dixie Platform Wedge for its color blocking that looks hand painted. The cushioned, luxe leather Colette heel in Petunia Purple offers a wide 4 inch heel for more support and looks sharp for the work place.
Vintage Shoe Company: Crafting footwear since 1883, this season Vintage Shoe Company tapped into their vast archive to recreate some of their footwear favorites. We loved the flat Henna Shoe, which actually dates back to as early as 1806! These leather lined, suede classics range in sumptuous spring pastel hues that look adorable with a sun dress and also feel divine on your feet.
Børn Crown: Known for its indulgent built in sole pad technology, we thought this line’s neutral toned footwear options were the epitome of functionality and comfort. Choose your fave beige between the forward shaped cork Yemena High Heel, the simple and classic Katherine Wedge, or the neutral Jill Gladiator slip-on sandal with sheen, all made from Veg Cow leather. Your feet will love you for it.

Former Calvin Klein PR Director Josh Reed makes customizing baseball caps accessible and sophisticated with launch of new online site, Gents.
Former Calvin Klein PR Director Josh Reed recently launched Gents,
an online shop offering sleek, customizable baseball caps that he believes are the next look of sophistication. “Guys love wearing caps, and I wanted to make it more appropriate to wear a cap at any occasion,” says Gents founder.
Gents sexy new website features a provocative black and white ad campaign with male models donning tuxes and black caps. The solid black cap, known as the director’s cap, is one of Gents’ biggest sellers. The brand provides hundreds of customization options with color, threading, logo design, and signature lines for creating a truly personalized cap. No matter your preferences for customization, Reed guarantees the results to be clean and non-flashy, the epitome of gentleman chic. “The guy who wanted this cap wants something minimal to make a statement in understated way,” adds Reed.
Reed worked diligently to make the customization template on the website very user friendly, something he said is especially important to male shoppers. Gents is not limited to males, however. Female celebrities including Zoe Saldana and Shay Mitchell have been spotted sporting their own customized Gents caps, posing the question, could they also be the new look for women?
But true to the name Gents, the site just launched stylish basics for men, including solid, clean cut t-shirts and V-necks, that like the caps, are supreme in fit and comfort, but are offered at a gentlemanly price point. “To me,” says Reed. “The definition of Gents is attainable luxury.”
